Incorporated in 1699, the town became
Quinebaug, the first official name
For the small Indian tribe located there,
But was renamed Plainfield the following year
Plainfield Academy, an 18th century legend
Prep school for boys to be Yale summoned.
Railroad junction, and roundhouse too
Troop trains crawled past in World War II.
Mills buzzed for the war effort night and day
Mills, now forever gone away.
Meadows and fertile fields of corn and rye.
Abundant waters found nearby.
We like this place - our small-town style
Come to visit; stay a while.
The towns around here are not far.
Kindly folks there are, there are:
The towns around here are not far.
Kindly folks there are, there are:
Jewett City, Moosup, Hopeville, Putnam,
Pomfret, Stirling, Scotland and Occum,
Canterbury, Voluntown, Baltic, Danielson,
Central Village, Griswold, Wauregan, and Preston.

There’s so much to crow about
Reasons why we like to shout
